Sally: The Pasture Donkey

Sally was raised as a pasture donkey alongside a herd of cows at a secluded wooded farm in North Florida. This unique upbringing meant that Sally had limited shelter, much less a proper barn, leaving her and her companions at the mercy of the weather. They depended on fresh water deliveries every couple of weeks, which made their lives even more challenging.

Growing up in such an environment, Sally had virtually no human contact, resulting in her being quite skittish around people. This naturally affects her behavior, especially when the Ferrier comes to visit; she requires a bit of special attention to feel comfortable. Despite her timid nature, Sally has a sweet side—she loves treats, especially carrots, which bring her a moment of joy in her otherwise cautious life.

Interestingly, Sally's age remains a mystery. Estimates suggest she could be anywhere between 15 to 25 years old, but this uncertainty adds to her charm. Her story reflects the resilience of animals who thrive in less-than-ideal circumstances, showcasing their adaptability and the deep bond they share with their environment.

Henry: The Ranch Jester

Henry came from a small farm in Port Orange. At the time of Sally’s arrival at the ranch, the search began for a companion donkey. Henry was described as being small, so it was figured he was a “mini” donkey. Turned out on arrival to pick Henry up, he was more mid-size than mini. But the good news: he still fit in the rental van!

Henry is the life of the party around the ranch for sure! If he is not hanging out with Sally (ever heard of separation anxiety?), grazing, or rolling in the dirt, you might see Henry chasing the cows and sheep, opening gates, breaking into the barn to wreak havoc, etc., etc., etc!

Henry is special… he will make you smile… but he is a troublemaker!

Age: 6 years
